How can you benefit from physical activity?
Lesson Overview
Title: “Fitness for Life”
Subject: Health and Fitness
Grade Level: Middle School
Kansas State Standard: 8th grade Health and Physical Education
The student uses a journal to realize how much “fitness” they are doing throughout the semester and compare with others in the class.
Lesson Summary:
Feeling better manifests itself in a number of ways.
Exercise builds and maintains physical fitness.
An increasing body of evidence suggests that physical activity and physical fitness contrubute in a number of ways to good health.
Unit Procedures:
1. The teacher will demonstrate Google Blogger. Allow students some blogging time to enter their exercise information for the week.
2. Create a blog in Google Blog. Call it “Health and Fitness”.
3. Students will keep track of their activities through out the semester and enter their information in Google Blog.
4. The teacher will demonstrate Google Calendar. Allow students some time Create calendar Google Calendar and name it by using your full name. Also give time for them to input their planned physicalactivities.
5. Students will enter their planned activities into the calendar to help keep them motivated.
6. On Google Blog when they list their activities they will also tell us if they completed the activities planned.

Assessment:
The teacher can check the blog to see if students are inputting their information each week. The teacher will also be able to see how often the student is on the page. Use the blog to compare to their calendar of planned physical activities.
Extension:
Are you exercising as much as recommended? Students might check their blog and calendar to determine how active they really are and then they can compare their information to the recommended frequency, intensity and duration of exercise.
Have students complete a paper answering “What are the benefits of Exercise?” In this paper they will include their progress and how they felt.
